Who Were the Original This Morning Presenters?

Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan launched This Morning on 3 October 1988 from the Albert Dock in Liverpool. They presented Monday to Friday at first, then Monday to Thursday from 1998. They stayed until 2001, when they left for Channel 4.

The years after that were busy. Ross Kelly and Caron Keating presented on Fridays in 1998. In 2001, Twiggy and Coleen Nolan briefly replaced Madeley and Finnigan, but Twiggy was later dismissed and Nolan finished the year alone. John Leslie and Fern Britton then took over, and the show settled into a steadier pattern.

Phillip Schofield had the longest spell, at 21 years. Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford were the Friday and holiday hosts from 2006 until Alison and Dermot replaced them in 2021. Lorraine Kelly co-presented with Schofield on Mondays and Fridays from 2004, and her ITV career has continued elsewhere. Several ex-hosts, including Ruth Langsford and Coleen Nolan, later became well known for other shows. For more on women who built careers in UK media, see our list of UK female journalists.

Why Did Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby Leave This Morning?

Why Did Phillip Schofield Leave?

Phillip Schofield stood down from This Morning on 20 May 2023. He later left ITV after admitting that he had an affair with a younger male colleague and that he had lied about it.

Why Did Holly Willoughby Leave?

Holly Willoughby announced her departure on 10 October 2023, after 14 years on the show. She said the decision was “for me and my family”, as reported by the BBC.

Who Replaced Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby?

After the 2023 exits, ITV used a rotating group of presenters for several months. On 16 February 2024 it confirmed Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley as permanent Monday to Thursday hosts, as noted by the Royal Television Society. They began on 11 March 2024.

How Much Do This Morning Presenters Get Paid?

ITV does not publish what its daytime presenters earn, so there are no official figures. Tabloids and entertainment sites sometimes print estimates, but these are unconfirmed and often copied from one another. Hosts also earn from other TV and radio work, which makes any single number misleading. For this reason, this guide does not quote salary or net worth figures. If you want to see how other well-known TV names are reported to earn, our profiles of Ant and Dec’s net worth and Zuri Hall’s net worth explain where such estimates come from.
