The quick answer: UK celebrity rankings do not have one winner, because each list measures something different. In 2026, Sir David Attenborough is the most popular, the Beckham family is the richest (£1.185bn), Dua Lipa and David Beckham are the most followed on Instagram (about 88 million each), and Scott Mills was the highest-paid disclosed BBC presenter (£745,000–£749,999). This guide shows each ranking with its source and date, so you can see who leads and why.

How Are UK Celebrity Rankings Calculated?

A UK celebrity here means someone with British nationality, or someone whose career is mainly based in the UK. Different lists use different measures, so you cannot compare them directly:

  • Popularity and fame: YouGov Ratings asks a UK panel. Fame is the share who have heard of a person. Popularity is the share who like them.
  • Wealth: the Sunday Times Rich List estimates identifiable assets such as property, shares, art and music catalogues. It does not count bank balances.
  • Earnings: the BBC pay disclosures list licence-fee pay above £178,000. They leave out commercial and independent deals.
  • Social media: follower counts from platforms and trackers. These change daily and can include fake accounts.
  • Search interest: Google Year in Search shows who the UK searched for most. News events can cause big spikes.

Fame is about recognition. Popularity is about being liked. That is why Piers Morgan is almost as famous as Attenborough but far less popular, as the next section shows. We do not combine these into one invented score, because the units (percentages, pounds and followers) cannot be added together fairly.

Most Popular UK Celebrities in 2026

David Attenborough is the most popular British public figure on YouGov’s UK TV personalities ranking. He turned 100 in May 2026, and 90% of people who know him say they like him. Stephen Fry is second on the list below.

This table covers TV personalities only. YouGov’s wider public-figures list also includes royals and politicians, so it is not a pure celebrity ranking. If you like presenter rankings, our guide to UK daytime TV presenters covers more names, and you can read about Jeremy Clarkson’s career for the story behind his high fame score.

UK National Treasures: Britain’s Most-Loved Stars

A national treasure is a famous person the public sees as part of British life, usually someone who has been loved for decades. In YouGov’s May 2026 national treasure poll, David Attenborough came first with 36% of nominations. Judi Dench followed on 17% and Stephen Fry on 7%.

This differs from a popularity score. The national treasure poll asks people to name one person, so beloved figures split the vote. A popularity score lets people rate everyone.

Actors and musicians dominate this list. Footballers such as Jude Bellingham are growing quickly, and Emma Watson remains one of the biggest actors online. Highest-Paid UK TV Presenters and BBC Stars

Scott Mills was the highest-paid disclosed BBC presenter for 2025/26, on £745,000–£749,999. Greg James was second on £440,000–£444,999. The BBC only has to publish pay above £178,000 that comes from the licence fee, so this is not a full picture of presenter earnings. You can read more about Mills’ exit in Scott Mills’ statement on leaving the BBC.

Salary is not the same as wealth. Stars such as Ant and Dec earn much of their money from production companies and commercial channels, which the BBC list does not show. In comedy, see how Michael McIntyre’s net worth compares, and read about Gary Lineker for a presenter whose income spans several broadcasters.

Most-Searched UK Celebrities

Google’s Year in Search UK 2025 is the latest full ranking, and the 2026 version is not out yet. Cat Burns topped the female musicians category and Oasis topped the male musicians category. Mickey Rourke, Alexander Isak and Stephen Graham were among the top people searched. The list was shaped by The Celebrity Traitors, the Oasis reunion and big news stories.

Search rankings move fast. One TV series or news event can push someone to the top for a few weeks, so they say little about long-term popularity.

Is There a UK Celebrity Power List?

No. We found no current, credible ranking of the most influential UK celebrities. Any single “power” score would need invented weights for fame, money, followers and search. The names that appear in several lists at once are David Beckham, Ed Sheeran, Adele, Dua Lipa, Harry Styles and Lewis Hamilton, which is the best guide to wide influence.

Biggest Ranking Changes in 2026

  • David Beckham: became the first British billionaire sportsman on the Rich List.
  • Liam and Noel Gallagher: entered the Rich List with a combined £375m after the Oasis reunion tour.
  • David Attenborough: stayed at the top of popularity polls in the year he turned 100.
  • Tyson Fury: debuted in the Rich List’s “40 Under 40” with £162m.

Tours, reality shows and big films are the main causes of movement. For related stories, see UK celebrity news and how relationships affect public interest in UK celebrity couples. Royals also feature in popularity polls, such as Prince Harry, whose wealth is covered separately.
